Akhtar’s research interests include International trade with a focus on trade facilitation, policy, and regulatory reforms. He also has hands-on experience in peacebuilding and development interventions. He has over 5 years of extensive field experience in research, monitoring and evaluation, including working with communities and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

At BRIEF, Akhtar has contributed to policy reports for the Indian government as well international agencies. He has extensively worked on trade facilitation and has contributed to reports providing a strategy for reforms in trade, being implemented by the Indian government. In the development sector, Akhtar has worked in the domain of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Child rights, Child education, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), etc.

Akhtar holds an MBA in Marketing and Finance and a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Kashmir.
