Bureau of Research on Industry and Economic Fundamentals (BRIEF) undertook a study on ‘The patterns and format of Special Economic Zones (SEZs), Industrial Zones, etc. in India’ in collaboration with Japan Development Institute (JDI).
Spread over a huge geographical area, there are several forms of industrial estates in India, namely Industrial Zones, Investment Promotion Zones, Special Economic Zones etc. It is understood that the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone, which has been newly formed by the Government of India as the favourable ground for manufacturing sectors industries to be attracted.
In this context, a survey was conducted on industrial estate development in India to study the investment trends and, physical and policy set-ups of the industrial estates of India. The survey and interviews were carried out by BRIEF on the subject, with relevant respondents at the zones with zone developers at various Industrial Zones, Investment Promotion Zones, Special Economic Zones etc. in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
